Christmas and the Holidays are upon us once more. I spotted this Billy freight in Hunts Point, Bronx in June and in July I went to a random weird show in Soho and saw this Ron English Santa. Hard to feel jolly this year with the state of things in NYC, the country and the world. Seems like it’s taken its toll on Santa and thanks to Billy for the coal smiling snowman.
Village Works bookshop had a zine launch on Friday. Unfortunately by the time I got there the zine was sold out and this was the last small print available. Barry Mcgee was on hand in the front signing any and every thing people wanted. This got pretty annoying as the line was long and the place was freezing because the doors were open. Poor Barry stood in the cold and patiently dealt with everyone. People really took advantage of his niceness especially these two super young kids who skipped the line and held his attention forever. Finally I got to him and he signed the front and back and complimented me on my shirt and when I said he has a lot of patience he said thanks for waiting and that I had patience. I wanted to stay and talk longer but I was freezing and there were still a lot of people waiting. Just wish I had brought my blackbook and some slaps still kicking myself about that… It took so long that I ended up missing the Pure TFP show at Orchard Paints. Gotta try and stop in there to check it out.

Click link above to pre-order the book. It’s a monster, got a preview this past summer. Ordered mine and they sent a set of these posters.

Last Thursday I was getting ready to go to David Zwirner for the Richard Serra opening when I happened to open instagram and see that Lee was giving a guided talk at the Drawing Center show. I hopped on my bike and made it to Soho not long after he started. Some nice insights on his early career and processes. Saturday I started at Al Diaz opening in LES (need to go back and spend more time with the work) and then over to Chelsea for Kaws opening. A lot of splatter on his usual iconography. Saturday I missed two friends events Matt Ellers block party and Kate and crews Landmark sorry guys!
Finally made it to The Drawing Center for the Kaw’s collection show. There’s a lot more to see but here’s some highlights. Can’t front he’s got good taste and pockets deep enough to get black book gold.
